Budgeting for Data: Increasing Challenges for End-User Firms?

This session will seek insight on how market data officers at end-user firms deal with their budgeting challenges in today’s environment.  We’ll see if budgets are growing, slowing, or remaining steady (and to what degree).  We’ll explore how MiFID II implementation has impacted the menu of data options for consumers and ask if this is a negative or positive (or a bit of both).  We’ll review the practice of ‘demand management’ and gauge its effectiveness, not only with market data and reference data, but also with credit ratings data and index data and ascertain with the current pricing ‘standard’ is for data required for regulatory purposes.

Is Cybersecurity our Industry’s Biggest Threat?

Governmental agencies including the Federal Bank of NY and the Office of Financial Research (OFR) are bemoaning the efforts of firms in our industry to guard against cyberattacks and declaring their actions as falling woefully short of where they should be.  This session will look at the nation states and criminal gangs behind most of these cyberattacks and highlight their potential means to damage our industry – including defaults on contracts, loss of customer confidence and impaired market liquidity.  Panelists will offer input on overlooked areas such as third-party vendors and foreign counterparties where risk could be mitigated.
