Where does the workstation fit in the 2018 market data landscape?

Some might argue that market data workstations have had their day and that centralised algorithms rule the future. However, to paraphrase Mark Twain – reports of the death of the workstation are much exaggerated. Eyeballs still focus on screens, yes there may be less of them but still plenty to justify our discussion. What those eyes look at, how much they pay, the technical and logistical challenges of ‘packaging’ the desktop – and interestingly the different roles those eyes belong to drive us to the conclusion that one size does not fit all. The stalwart Bloomberg and Eikon do not have it all their own way – where do alternatives come from and what do they have to offer?
