Renata Galvao

Manager – Content Specialists, Refinitiv World-Check

Renata Galvao is currently the Manager of the Content Specialists at Refinitiv’ s World-Check database, covering specialist research, research training, data analytics and global legal queries pertaining to Data Protection. Her team leads specialist research projects on money laundering predicate offenses, including human trafficking, human right abuses, wildlife trafficking, threat finance and environmental crimes. Originally from Brazil, she has a background in journalism and worked as an international correspondent in Africa for years. Her desire to further impact society through actions against criminal activity led her to Refinitiv, where she started as Research Analyst covering the Brazilian Car-Wash corruption scandal and was later appointed as Research Manager for the Africa Region. She is also an internationally certified Anti-money laundering specialist (ACAMS) and is currently studying a Postgraduate Diploma in Law specializing in Criminology at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

Nicolette Kost De Sèvres

Partner, Mayer Brown

Recognized by the Globe and Mail as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women, Nicolette Kost De Sèvres is a partner in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC and Paris offices and a member of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice. She heads the Compliance, Regulatory and Investigations team in Paris. Prior to joining Mayer Brown, she served as global co-head of the Financial and Technology (Fintech) practice at another global law firm.

Nicolette has 19 years of experience as a lawyer in the corporate and financial regulatory sector and has practiced in London, Paris, Sydney, Washington DC and Montreal. She has several years of in-house experience, including service as special senior counsel in the New York Stock Exchange’s Paris office (NYSE Euronext) and as special counsel at the Royal Bank of Scotland in London, where she advised on regulatory reforms and the implementation of new regulatory requirements. She also served as special counsel to the president and as chief of staff and of the financial markets regulator in Montreal.

In addition to her experience in anti-corruption and anti-money laundering compliance, risk assessment and investigation matters, Nicolette represents global banks, exchanges, trading firms and companies in matters involving compliance, regulatory obligations, derivatives and securities law, ISDA, reporting and cross-border issues, including the French Loi Sapin II, Dodd-Frank, MIFID, EMIR, AIFMD, BASEL, BRDD, AML, KYC, PDS2, fintech regulation, UK Bribery Act, FCPA/DOJ, World Bank Integrity Guidelines and ongoing international regulatory reforms. She regularly appears before regulators in Canada, Europe and the United States, including ESMA and the FCA, AMF, ACPR, CFTC, CFPB, FINRA, SEC, the World Bank and other multilateral banks.

Nicolette serves on several boards, including the American Chamber of Commerce in France. She is a sought-after writer and speaker on international financial markets and the effects of regulation on financial systemic risk, derivatives, high-frequency trading and the legal framework of European financial markets. Notably, she is the author of the book International Economic Law (2008) and one of the first articles on DLTs, “Blockchain Revolution: An Analysis of Regulation and Technology Related to Distributed Ledger Technologies” (2017).

In 2017, she was named on the Powerlist of Women of the Year in Fintech by Innovate Finance, in the UK and as Best Lawyer in European Law by Lawyer Monthly. Lawyer Monthly’s Magazine Women in Law Awards has recognized Nicolette as European Union Lawyer of the Year. (2017). She was named Star of the Quarter by the American Bar Association in 2007.

Peter Warms

Business Development Manager, GLEIF

I recently joined as the Global LEI Foundation (Americas) as the Business Development Manager for US operations. My primary focus is to further implement the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) within KYC work-flows and on-boarding processes by working directly with financial institutions. The world’s largest sell-side, buy-side, custodians and banks are collaborating with GLEIF to further promote LEI usage. Prior to joining GLEIF, I worked at Bloomberg for 27 years focusing on data management issues, instrument identification, entity content, KYC, financial regulation and LEI issuance.

Prior to his current role, Peter was responsible for overseeing business development for Bloomberg Data License, which combines the resources of the Bloomberg Professional Service – the world’s most trusted source of information, analytics, data and news – with end of data and intraday reference, pricing and corporate action data services.

Peter joined Bloomberg in 1993 and has worked in the Global Data division primarily focusing on Fixed Income, while also managing Mutual Funds and Corporate actions along the way.

Sanne Wass

Reporter, S&P Global

Sanne Wass is a reporter at S&P Global Market Intelligence in London, covering Nordic banking, anti-money laundering and compliance, as well as trade finance. Prior to joining S&P in 2019, she was a senior reporter at Global Trade Review, a specialist trade finance magazine, where she spent three years covering everything from compliance and regulation to technology and insurance. Originally from Denmark, Sanne has previously worked in the Danish parliament and for the daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten, among other. She holds a master’s degree in political science from the University of Copenhagen and an MA in international journalism from City University London.
