Communication and Digitization- oiling the wheels for data policies.

Data policies are a complex and angst-ridden part of our business. Argument about what data policies should be persists. However, a major cause of friction is simply understanding what policies are – and at the heart of that issue is communication. How are policies communicated and explained? Could ODRL (Open Digital Rights Language) be one answer? ‘Smart Contracts’ might be another solution. Services have sprung up aiming to document summaries of policies – are they the answer? This discussion is not about the rights and wrongs of any data policies – it is about how do we know what those policies are in the first place. Furthermore, our ideal is to transform this process from end to end – a bold objective needing some bold initiatives.

Markets and Trading: An International Perspective

We typically think of exchanges and security trading as country-centric – e.g. “the U.S. markets’ or “the Canadian markets”.  But rest assured, there is a great deal of international activity with exchanges and trading.  This session provides insight on a number of issues related to the international aspects of our industry.  We’ll see how MiFID II implementation has influenced trading across the globe and see how enhanced regulatory standards have leveraged data for compliance purposes.  Panelists will also discuss specifics of dual listings and how settlement and clearing are handled in cross-border transactions.  We’ll also talk about the FX Global Code, which addresses a truly global asset class which, historically largely unregulated, is now seeing enhanced standards of conduct.
