Stephen Bain

Stephen holds nearly 20 years of diverse institutional sell-side equities experience spanning fundamental and quantitative research, portfolio trading, trade cost, benchmark and market structure analysis. For five years he was Head of Electronic Trading for the Canadian broker-dealer arm of Canada’s largest bank and also served as Chief Strategist and Head of Canadian Market Structure for its Global Electronic Equities platform.

More recently, Stephen represented that dealer’s Global Markets business on the bank’s Enterprise Innovation Council — also co-founding and chairing the Global Markets Innovation Council. In this capacity he monitored and was a thought-leader on emergent technologies (including artificial intelligence and blockchain), their implications for the firm’s wholesale trading business — collaborating on related efforts across the bank. He also assisted in due diligence for several venture investments and advised on a range of strategic, regulatory, intellectual property and market structure matters.

During his career Stephen has served as advisor on standing committees with the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC). He has visited Washington D.C. on multiple occasions to share his market structure insights with lawmakers and regulators (including the SEC and FINRA). Today, he remains a member of the Canadian Security Traders Association’s Trading Issues Committee and IIROC’s Marker Rules Advisory Committee.

Stephen holds a Bachelors of Commerce and Masters of Management Studies from Carleton University in Ottawa and has been a Chartered Financial Analyst since 2000.

Shaun Baskett

Director Index Sales, Cboe Europe

Shaun Baskett has over 20 years of experience in the financial industry with a background in equity Derivatives and Indexing. Shaun is currently the Director of Index Sales for Cboe Europe, the largest stock exchange in Europe. In his role, which he has held since the beginning of 2017, Shaun oversees sales and marketing efforts for the company’s index products. Bats launched its index business in June 2016 and is bringing choice and competition to the European index market through its suite of products. Prior to joining Cboe, Shaun worked in Index sales for Deutsche Boerse, as well as roles at the London Stock Exchange and OM Group. Shaun has also had several roles in Investment banks including as a sales trader at JP Morgan and Dresdner Kleinwort Benson. Shaun holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

Paul Gunther

Sales Manager, MDSL

Paul is a business development executive at MDSL, an industry leader in market data and technology expense management. Prior to joining MDSL in 2015, Paul worked as a Director of Content Re-Distribution Sales at S&P Capital IQ, having previously served as a Sales Manager for Capital IQ and TheMarkets.com. Paul specializes in helping financial institutions find ways to reduce their market data and index-related expenses. He graduated from University of Richmond with a dual degree in Finance and Business Administration.

Stephen Hoffman

Vice President, Exchange Traded Funds, RBC

Stephen J Hoffman is Vice President, Exchange Traded Funds at RBC Global Asset Management. He is responsible for the overall strategic management of RBC ETFs, including new product development, product management, and supporting ETF utilization across all distribution channels.

Mr. Hoffman is a graduate of the Schulich School of Business at York University, earning both an MBA and BBA. He is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Professional Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder.

Brian McCallion

In 2011 Brian mentioned Xignite at a presentation on cloud computing and nothing has been the same since. Known for Cloud strategy and architecture, as a hands on member of a great team Brian works with customers and his team to help capital markets firms gain an edge through adoption of Cloud technology. Brian specializes in designing, developing, and implementing AWS cloud solutions for hedge funds, market data firms, and business units in larger financial firms.

Nick Merritt

Program Director, FISD

Nick joined FISD in May 2007 and works with members focused on anti-piracy of market data, data provider contract licenses and policies as well as communication among participants in the market data industry. In addition, he serves as the primary point of contact for the Data Vendor Constituent Group and the Index Forum Group. Prior to joining FISD Nick was employed with the American Bankers Association from 2002-2007 and with The NASDAQ Stock Market from 1987 – 2001 where he served as Senior Director Issuer Services. Nick holds a BA from The University of Mississippi and an MBA from The George Washington University.

Joe Nardulli

Senior Vice President, Strategic Sourcing, Enterprise Market Data, Northern Trust

Joe is responsible for analyzing and evaluating market data vendor products, contract negotiations, client engagement, and industry advancement of best practices. Joe has been with The Northern Trust Company for 19 years and previously worked in accounting operations, product development, and as manager of the index team in the Investment Risk and Analytical Services group.

The last few years he has been focused on the challenges of data management within capital markets, primarily with Security, Pricing and Client reference data. Prior to Thomson Reuters he was Director, Head of Reference Data Services for RBC Capital Markets and at Merrill Lynch as Director, Enterprise Information Management. At CPPIB and the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan he was a key member of the IT leadership team that acquired, designed, developed, integrated and implemented a broad suite of investment and finance systems across multiple asset classes. Mike has a B.A.Sc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.

Prior to Amazon, Bob led corporate development at Apptio, which went public in 2016. Bob has a B.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, and an M.B.A with a specialization in Analytic Finance from the University of Chicago.
