FISD Welcomed Record # of New Members in 2022

During 2022, FISD membership grew from 208 to 259 companies with over 60 new members joining. The new members include a mix of banks, buyside firms, vendors and exchanges. Reasons for joining included the Alternative Data Council, the new Engineering Stream, professional certification and (of course) WFIC 2022. We would like to welcome all of our new members!

FISD Toastmasters Chapter

Participating regularly in a Toastmasters club can help you become a better public speaker, a stronger communicator, and a more effective leader. FISD is working to start a virtual chapter that could meet at ET lunchtime/GMT end of day to give members free access to the celebrated Toastmasters curriculum as well as an opportunity to get to know a small group more intimately. Participation will be limited to 30 people. Contact Hope Wilkes to learn more or get on the invitation list for a trial meeting led by Toastmasters staff.

FISD New York

Join your fellow FISD colleagues for the first event of the year in NYC on Feb. 9 at Deutsche Bank to discuss what is ahead for 2023. Topics include digital assets, the cloud meta-trend, recent acquisitions in the market data world and more, followed by a reception to network with old and new friends in the industry.

  FISD plans to hold a Rising Stars Happy Hour in New York in April. FISD’s Rising Stars activities bring together market data professionals who are on the younger side, earlier in their careers, or generally striving to grow. If you can host a reception for ~50 people in your office, please contact Hope Wilkes.
  
• FISD FIA Training – June 2023
  There’s a British invasion afoot! The inimitable David Anderson is planning a trip to the Big Apple to coincide with the May 31 FISD New York event. While he’s here, David will be teaching a two-day course covering everything you need to know to pass your FISD FIA exam. The course will be open to the public. If you can host about a dozen people in a classroom-like setting, please get in touch with David Anderson. Registration and commercials are coming soon.

FISD Executive Committee

FISD members voted to elect 12 of the 27 existing FISD Executive Committee seats for a two-year term ending on December 31, 2024. FISD is very pleased to welcome new Executive Committee members Goldman Sachs, Northern Trust and S&P Global, as well as all returning members. The Executive Committee Leadership, with Trip Wadleigh as Chair, Steve Dickey as Vice Chair, and Marcy Pike as Secretary, will serve in these roles through 2024. Return In-Person Events across APAC

With record attendance at our first in-person Singapore and Sydney events in the last few months of 2022, we are really excited to be registering attendees for in-person events in Hong Kong and Tokyo in March. Join us for information sharing and discussions on topics of interest in these major centers.

AsiaFIC

There is a rapid uptake of attendance for AsiaFIC on May 3 and 4 in Singapore since registration opened a few days ago. The return to a pan APAC FISD event is generating a buzz of excitement in the market data community. Engineering Stream

FISD is thrilled to have expanded the Engineering Stream since its launch at WFIC 2022. Join David Anderson and engineering experts in New York on the morning of June 1 for our first United States-based Engineering Stream, hosted at Google. Hear a series of short, highly technical presentations focused on topics at the forefront of market data engineering.

Women’s Group & Allies Luncheons—NYC and London 

The FISD Women’s Group & Allies has two exciting luncheons in the next few weeks. First, join us in New York on June 6 for a panel of industry professionals at various stages of their careers—from rising stars to senior executives, discussing how the industry is evolving and what that has meant for their careers and organizations. Then on June 14, the London’s Women’s Group & Allies gather at Google for a luncheon with a fireside chat featuring Paola Ollivari, Director of Google’s Data & Analytics Go-To-Market at Google Cloud UK and Ireland.

Support the Greenwood Project

FISD Members: We need your help! Greenwood Project is an organization working to create opportunities in financial services for Black and Latinx scholars through paid training and internships. They’re looking for organizations to host student interns (paid, $20/hour, 40 hours/week) this summer. These scholars are highly qualified and trained in accounting, financial statement analysis, the Office suite, Bloomberg as well as soft skills. Interested? Email partnerships@greenwoodproject.org.

FISD Evaluating S.E.C. Proposal on Odd Lots

In December, the S.E.C. published a rule proposal for amendments to Reg NMS that would make several changes to the operation of U.S. equities markets and dissemination of associated data. Among the changes are proposals to enhance the transparency of odd lot orders. This would happen through the reclassification of certain odd lot orders as round lots and adding some pre-trade odd lot information to the consolidated tape feed produced by the securities information processors (SIPs). While the general sense of FISD membership seems to be that these changes are constructive and will add transparency to U.S. equities markets, there also seems to be a consensus that the proposed timeline for implementation (90 days after publication in the Federal Register) is too aggressive. FISD is considering submitting a comment letter to the S.E.C. on this narrow issue within the overall rule proposal. If you have thoughts or questions on this topic, please contact Tom Davin.

FISD Tokyo

We are back in-person in Tokyo on March 30 with a great line up. We have arranged for experts on Cloud Technologies (AWS and JPMC), Next Gen Arrowhead (JPX) and Sustainability Data (ICE and S&P S1)  to explore the impact and implications these significant topics are likely to have for our Japan-based financial information community.

We are also lucky to coincide with a Japan visit from LSEG’s global head of low latency and direct feeds. Patrick Flannery was the CEO and Founder of Maystreet which LSEG acquired in June 2022 and he will provide an update on LSEG’s low latency strategy and plans. We have also arranged some long overdue networking with our Japan-based financial industry colleagues to explore these and other topics in a more casual setting.

FISD Madrid

FISD Madrid takes place Thursday, April 27, hosted at the beautiful and historic building of the BME, Spanish Exchange. Come join the round table discussion sessions and meet the local Madrid market, as we already have a rapidly growing attendance from the local consumer community. Topics that we will cover range between Commercial Policies, Technology, Operations, Data Compliance, Regulation, and Alternative Investments. Of course we will network afterwards, on the sunny terrace of BME, where your wine will taste that, ooh, so much better!

AsiaFIC

FISD is getting ever more excited about our return to running the annual pan APAC FISD event – AsiaFIC – taking place in Singapore May 3-4. Our full May 4 program and our speakers capture the key trends in the Financial Information industry. We have most recently posted a very tech centric Engineering Stream for the morning of May 3, building on the success of a similar program at WFIC last year, check out that program here.
