Panel: How Standardized Data Documentation Helps Data to Flow

The experts within FISD’s Alternative Data Council recently created and published the Data Descriptions Guidelines, a standardized approach to data documentation.  These guidelines help data vendors apply standard approaches to describe their data, provide technical details to help engineers efficiently access the data, and to save researchers time by providing starter code and data validation tests.  It is intended as a single place to define a vendor’s business.

This panel will discuss how industry coalescence around standardized data documentation can provide benefits to different sectors of the alt data ecosystem:

*Vendors: Better communication to your customers and potential customers

*Market places/data brokers:  Easier to find and evaluate data sources

*Data engineering teams: Faster to ingest data to make it consumable

*Investment Analysts / Data Scientists: Quickly extract insights from the data

Usage Reporting Working Group Publishes Finding of Exchange Survey

In September 2021, the Usage Reporting Working Group made a presentation to the Exchange Constituency Group (ECG) with six key issues / recommendations identified by the Working Group.  After the ECG discussion, the Working Group decided to survey member and non-member exchanges to assess the degree to which exchanges aligned to the September recommendations.   FISD (jointly with TRG Screen) sent a questionnaire out to over 100 exchanges about usage reporting practices in our industry; 43 exchanges responded to this survey.
