Handing the Keys of the Market Data Kingdom to the next Generation – an FISD ‘Rising Stars’ Activity

The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore they attempt the impossible, and achieve it, generation after generation.”  – Pearl S. Buck.

Nothing ever stands still; change is the only constant in life. What’s happening with the generations within our market data industry? Where are the next leaders? Let’s hear from the newest entrants and let’s plan for the future. It’s about the recruitment and nurturing of new talent.

We hear from some of that newest of new talent – how are they changing things up and we explore what they seek from some of us in the middle of our market data careers or those even nearing the end.

  • Some ‘new’ talents share their experiences, expectations and aspirations – thus far
  • Those more advanced in their careers discuss recruitment and nurturing.

WFIC 2022 Sponsorships Are Selling Fast

World Financial Information Conference (“WFIC”) Sponsorships, which are now available, typically sell out well in advance of the event date and we expect this to be especially true this cycle, as exhibitor inventory is limited. In addition, 2019 sponsors receive first priority to renew their options until September 30th. For this reason, we suggest past sponsors to contact FISD now to reserve their packages, and for potential new sponsors to indicate their interests so that we can prioritize them. Please contact Tracey Shumpert if you have any questions.

FISD In-Person Events in New York and London

While no one can be sure of when things will be fully back to “normal”, FISD has scheduled events in the fall in London (October 6) and New York (October 14) so FISD members can once again enjoy networking receptions. The safety and comfort of our member attendees will be our highest priority. We encourage attendees to be fully vaccinated before attending and request the wearing of masks when seated in the auditorium listening to speakers. FISD will comply with local and national government rules – and the rules/policies of the venue. Please contact  Tom Davin if you have any questions.

Let's Talk About the FISD FIA!

Think back on your personal career trajectory. It probably wasn’t a straight line from university to the market data industry. Experiential learning got you where you needed to be, but it took time. If you’re hiring a group of bright-eyed graduates and career changers you may need to wait months or years for them to become truly proficient. Or you can help them compress that timeline with the FISD Financial Information Associate (FISD FIA) certification.

The FISD FIA is the only credential designed specifically for market data professionals. Candidates are tested on their knowledge of a broad range of industry information they’ll need to do their job as well as communicate effectively with colleagues and clients. Exam material is divided into four major categories:

  • Markets: This includes the trade life cycle, major asset classes, market participants, key job functions, and the role of the markets.
  • Data: This includes sources, providers, types of data, uses of data, and commercial arrangements.
  • Technology: This includes connectivity, hardware, messaging, algorithmic trading, data management, and cloud computing.
  • Issues & Trends: This includes commercial trends, economic issues, regulations, and typical contract terms.

Want to give your new team members an edge? Download the FISD FIA syllabus PDF now to see everything they’ll learn.

Measuring Social Impact: Defining the “S” in ESG on August 26 @ 10:00 AM-11:00 AM US Eastern Time

As ESG’s importance to investors grows, it is important to understand what ESG data is and how it’s generated. While the “E” – environmental impact – is straightforward, the “S” is more slippery. This harder to quantify element covers employee diversity, human rights, animal testing, and consumer protections. How are data providers, aggregators, and ratings agencies meeting the challenge of defining and measuring social responsibility?

This session will address:

  • How ESG is commonly defined, especially the social factors
  • What puts a company “on the side of the angels” as far as the “S” is concerned?
  • The recent history of demand for ESG information and how data providers have responded
  • Use of AI to assess companies against ESG parameters – how much weight is given to the “S” factor?

Advance registration is required in order to receive the Zoom details. I encourage you to register now using the link below so you can be sure to block off the time. Questions? Email Hope Wilkes.
